Greater Bibleway Church was founded in May 1975 under the leadership of Reverend Alex Lewis, Jr. The Greater Bibleway Church was organized over 25 years ago. The church at that time was considered quite radical; it reflects what Greater Bibleway has evolved into today.
In March of 2002 Dr Toris Young Assumed the mantle as the second succeeding Pastor of the Greater Bibleway Church with a membership at that time of 35 active members. In nine months the church has more than 1500 members.
Under Pastor Young’s leadership, all church property was paid in full. We have a site at 2934-2936 Joliet Street which houses our Educational Dept., Computer Lab, Cafeteria, Administration offices, and our Children’s Church. 2940 Joliet Street is our main Sanctuary. 8493 S, Claiborn Ave house our Housing Development Corp., as we as 50 elderly units. 8940 S. Claiborn Ave is the location of our Church Housing with some 75 units.
Now Greater Bibleway is in a massive building program. Implementation of annual theme. Establishing PALS (Pastors and Leaders Study) Greater Bibleway Baptist Church is a church for our people. We are not called for who we are but because of what god can make out of us. This church is on the move for our lord.
